WOW! A completely unique holiday experience awaits you at Bakesdown Farm, near Bude. From the moment you arrive you’ll be well looked after, and when you step up into the wagon itself you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back into a different era! The wagon is a 1930 showman’s family tourer from Scotland, now perfectly placed on a 2 acre paddock with panoramic views, just 15 minutes from the North Cornwall coast! The interior is replete with original fittings and features, including an open fireplace (logs provided) and has its own cooker, fridge and hot water, and even a small shower! There’s an open fire pit with log seating outside, and the sense of space and ‘away from it all’ness is hard to beat!

The Showman’s Wagon is a unique holiday experience. Situated on a peaceful farm in its own, private two acre paddock, it has a great sense of seclusion and privacy, and ample space for letting you hair down, playing games and taking walks.
There is a stone pathway down to the paddock, and the first sight of the Showman’s Wagon will enthrall you. Step up to the entrance door, and into a time gone by! This is a place to escape the trappings of modern life, and to experience an altogether simpler, more authentic way of life.
The lounge area has an exquisite fireplace with an inset logburner: just the setting for cosying up with a cocoa or a glass of wine on a balmy evening. There is ample built in storage, and light aplenty from the large windows and roof lights. There are two comfy armchairs and a bench seat (this pulls out to make the single bed). There’s also a small fold-out table to place between them, upon which you’ll find a proper Cornish, home baked, cream tea awaiting your arrival.
The kitchen is equipped with an small gas cooker with a hob, a small fridge and sink with running water. A wall mounted boiler provides hot water. There is also an enclosed shower off the kitchen though, if you prefer, there’s a mains shower, flush WC and hand basic at the farmyard 100 metres away (there’s also further fridge space and an indoor space for drying clothes here, too, although a washing line is provided beside the wagon). The bedroom has a dressing table, wardrobe space and a cosy double bed.
The farm owners are members of the Wholesome Food Association and run the farm on organic principles. There are, in all, 31 acres, divided into 12 small paddocks and woodland areas. They have several newly planted copses (including a fledgling orchard beside the wagon). They are just across the road from the farmyard, and on hand to assist with anything you need during your stay.
Outside the wagon is a firepit, perfect for barbecues, and a set of log stools. Dining outside is a must on sunny evenings, accompanied by your own entertainments around the campfire (bring your guitar or harmonica!) There is a large paddock for games, and, tucked away amongst the trees, the compost toilet within a wooden shed. Composting and recycling is also encouraged,
The local countryside is outstandingly beautiful but if you decide to venture further, Bude’s coastline offers five miles of sandy beaches at low tide and, in Bude itself, both Summerleaze and Crooklets beaches offer soft sand, dunes, rock pools, the Sea pool, surf, and much more! Bude shopping and leisure facilities are excellent, and dining out options equally varied.
The Showman’s Wagon is a perfect base for beaches and for exploring Cornwall. with easy access to the major routes towards Boscastle, Tintagel, the Eden Project and more (although you’ll most likely be tempted to stay put and relax! Situated at the top of a two acre paddock, with ample space for games and a great starting point for walks, the Showman’s Wagon is the epitome of peaceful seclusion. It is hidden away in its own paddock on a working, family run farm, and you’ll have the opportunity to meet (and feed) the livestock.
The interior of the Showman’s Wagon is sublime. Fully fitted, beautifully hand crafted furnishings from another era. The wagon is also pretty much self-contained, with its own fridge, cooker, hot water, and even a small shower. The power comes from a small, eco-friendly, on-site wind turbine, and the water from the farm’s own bore hole!
Outside there are yet more features to make your holiday perfect! An open firepit with log seating provide a great setting for barbecues and sunset gatherings (bring a guitar for the full effect!) A supply of logs is provided, and more are available from the farm.
Come meet (and help feed if you’d like) the cows and chooks!
